Photo card guide

Picsme personalised cards are printed in the UK on 260gsm card. The outside is silk coated for a smooth printed surface, while the inside is writable. Each card includes a white envelope.

Use a favourite photograph, an illustration or your own artwork. Cards can suit birthdays, thank-you messages, invitations, wedding announcements and everyday notes that deserve something more personal.

Which size should you choose?

SizeWhen it can work well
A6A compact greeting, thank-you card or invitation.
A5More space for a photograph and a personal message.
A4A larger card for group signatures or a more prominent design.
Square, 135 × 135mmA balanced format for square images, invitations and simple graphic layouts.

Consider how the photograph will fit the front and how much writing space you need inside. A larger card gives you more room, but it also makes a small image's limitations more visible.

Four pages, one folded card

The four-page format means the front, inside left, inside right and back. It is a folded card, rather than four separate sheets.

  1. Front: choose the main photograph or artwork and any short greeting.
  2. Inside left: leave space, add a supporting image or include extra wording where the layout allows.
  3. Inside right: place your main message, invitation details or handwritten greeting.
  4. Back: check the finishing details and any text or design you have included.

The writable inside is useful when you want to sign the card or add a note by hand. Leave enough clear space in the design for this.

Prepare photos, artwork and text

JPG and PNG are reliable options for preparing image files. The card editor also supports additional formats where offered, but an original high-quality image is a better starting point than a screenshot.

Check the crop on the front cover. Keep faces and text away from trim edges and the fold. A photograph with a busy background may need a clear area behind any message so the words remain easy to read.

For invitations, proofread the recipient or event name, date, time, location and reply details. For group cards, choose a size and layout that leave enough space for signatures.

Start with a template or your own design

Choose the card size on the product page, then open the editor. Start from an available template or create your own layout. Add your photographs and wording, then review all four pages before ordering.

A template is a starting point. Check that any sample text, placeholder names and dates have been replaced with your own details.

Final card checklist

  • Confirm the size and the orientation of the design.
  • Check all four pages, including the back.
  • Proofread names, dates, addresses and messages.
  • Leave room for handwriting if you want to add a personal note.
  • Check the delivery address and final order total.
